THE VITAL QUESTION YOU MUST ANSWER WHEN A KID WITH COMPLEX SENSORY NEEDS WALKS IN:
“WHAT AM I GONNA TO DO WITH YOU?”
AUTISTIC THERAPISTS, SLPS, OTS & FIELD LEADERS STAND BEHIND INSIDE OUT
- Struggle to get kids to regulate so you can actually work on communication… because they have a suitcase full of sensory needs and they’re too dysregulated to reach the place where communication is possible…
- Feel like you’re hitting a brick wall when you try to implement sensory strategies into sessions… because you don’t have the concrete skills you need… and you’re constantly wondering if you’re doing the right thing or prescribing the right treatment…
- Rely on “trial-and-error” in your sessions to get kids regulated and communicating… but you aren’t sure WHY some things work for some kids and not for others…
THEN YOU MIGHT HAVE A BAG OF TRICKS THAT WORK SOMETIMES. WITH SOME KIDS. ON SOME DAYS.
BUT IF A PARENT OR COLLEAGUE ASKED YOU “WHY” YOU’RE DOING WHAT YOU’RE DOING, YOU MIGHT WISH YOU COULD HIDE UNDER YOUR DESK.
"I have never felt this confident treating kids on the spectrum.”
“...I have never felt this confident treating kids on the spectrum. I feel much more confident and calm when I see a kiddo on the spectrum. As someone who deals with anxiety in general, work can be a trigger for me….
…Since taking this course…I am able to come up with a tentative assessment and (very loose) treatment outline/plan for each kiddo and feel assured of my skills and knowledge. I’m pretty sure that the biggest change has been how transformative this course was for my confidence.”
— Maribeth Deshotel, B.S., SLPA
If only a pair of flushed cheeks was the worst of it…
What's even worse is — when you’re in a speech session with a kid who has complex sensory needs and you find yourself asking the terrifying question:
“AM I FAILING THIS CHILD?”
Because if you don’t know the “why” behind everything you’re doing with each kid on your caseload.
Then you’ll always be asking yourself if you know what you're doing — or if you could be doing more.
You’ll keep reliving the same confusion whenever a brand new kid comes in with sensory needs.
And you’ll be starting from scratch, over and over again — expending energy you don’t have, and risking burnout.
All the while, your kids may be missing critical developmental windows…
YOU’LL BE DESTINED TO GUESS YOUR WAY THROUGH SESSION AFTER SESSION WITH INCONSISTENT PROGRESS, DAY AFTER DAY — EVEN THOUGH EVERYTHING IN YOUR HEART DESPERATELY WANTS TO HELP.
I know... because I struggled too.
I WAS A CONFUSED AND DEFEATED CLINICIAN
In case we haven’t formally met, I’m Jessie Ginsburg, M.S., CCC-SLP.
Let me tell you my story...
Before there was the Inside Out Sensory Certificate for SLPs… there was a confused and defeated therapist (that would be me).
I was constantly frustrated about the lack of progress with my autistic kids.
I questioned my therapy approaches and everything I’d been taught.
As speech pathologists, we’re taught how to work on communication with kids and parents — to teach the child to communicate.
BUT I FOUND THAT I COULDN’T TEACH COMMUNICATION BECAUSE THESE KIDS WERE TOO DYSREGULATED. AND I HAD NO IDEA WHAT TO DO.
I was living with a constant feeling that I wasn’t doing enough for my clients...
…even though I had their absolute best interests at heart, and I’d done everything I was trained to do.
That’s when I discovered that in order to make a difference, not only in a child's communication skills but in their life, I needed to think in a new way.
I did a "brain dump" of everything I knew about working with autistic children.
And I realized...
YOU CAN’T TEACH COMMUNICATION WITHOUT REGULATION
Without regulation, climbing the staircase from the “downstairs brain” to the “upstairs brain” where communication is possible — is impossible.
I knew I needed to help my kids climb the language staircase and reach their “Optimal Learning Zone”...
It was the only way to open up the doors to communication.
There was just one problem…
MANY OF MY KIDS HAD A SUITCASE FULL OF SENSORY NEEDS, AND I DIDN’T KNOW HOW TO ADDRESS THEM.
And if you can’t address their sensory needs, then you can’t get them regulated…
Which meant that I’d have to either “trial-and-error” my way through sessions with slow-to-no progress…
Or I’d have to shamefully tell their parents:
“I’m sorry, I can’t help your child because I’m not sure how to get them regulated”
…and send them off to an OT like a part on a conveyor belt.
And so “trial-and-error” is what I did.
I STARTED IMPLEMENTING PLAY-BASED THERAPY STRATEGIES. DOING FUN MOVEMENT ACTIVITIES — AND SOME OF WHAT I DID WORKED!
But my new strategies were only effective sometimes, and I couldn’t be sure WHY they worked with some kids and not with others.
Why does this child respond well to this environmental modification — and this child doesn’t?
Why… when I bounce them on my knee?
Why… when I talk to them this way, or that way?
Why… why… why…???
AND BECAUSE I COULDN’T ANSWER “WHY” — MY THERAPY RESULTS CONTINUED TO BE INCONSISTENT
It was bad enough feeling like I didn’t know how to do my job.
But even worse, I hated how hard I was struggling to help some of my kids!
I knew there was still a missing piece...
So I enrolled in every Sensory Processing Course I could get my hands on...
Problem was — they weren't meant for me.
They were meant for OTs, and the coursework was dense and exhausting.
It took me years to perfect how I could take these strategies and integrate them into my speech sessions.
But guess what?
I did it.
I took the courses.
I did the hard work.
I spent loads of cash.
So you don't have to.
"...other people in his class were asking, ‘Oh my gosh, what are you doing with him? How did you do this?’”
“For a long time it was really hard for me to connect with him, and I didn’t really know how to go about it.
"And it hurt my feelings, I’m like ‘Why don’t you like me?!’ However, going through the Sensory Program cohort helped me get a better understanding of what his particular sensory needs were.
"Once I was able to do that, it was like a light switch.
"To the point where other people in his class were asking, ‘Oh my gosh, what are you doing with him? How did you do this?’
"The connection I’ve made is literally night and day.

WHICH BRINGS US TO:
Confidently Providing Speech Therapy That Starts With Regulation & Sensory Processing — And Ends With Life-Changing Communication.
Speech therapy that empowers your kids to reach higher levels of communication isn’t something you can put into a cookbook.
It’s about understanding the “sensory foundation” of each child on your caseload.
And then, using your knowledge to get them regulated and ready to communicate.
THE SIMPLIFIED INSIDE OUT PROCESS
Individualized Assessment of Sensory Processing
Sensory Strategies & Optimal Learning Zone
The top sensory SLPs on the planet know that the ONLY speech therapy that works consistently is:
✔ And allows you to respond “on the fly” when you need to make changes fast, in the moment — without EVER having to guess.
YOU CREATE SPEECH SESSIONS THAT WORK WHEN YOU UNDERSTAND:
- How to quickly assess and craft sensory profiles for each of your kids…
- What sensory patterns your kids are & what to do with that information…
- How to analyze sensory preferences (for each of the 8 sensory systems)
- Every, single, one of your child’s sensory processing differences (and how to address them)...
- Optimal Arousal Band & Optimal Arousal Theory (and how it impacts each of your kids)...
- What to do about sensory modulation & registration (and the modifications you can make to your therapy approach)...
BUT, UNTIL NOW, IT WAS IMPOSSIBLE FOR SLPS TO GET A SELF-PACED COURSE THAT TAUGHT SENSORY REGULATION STRATEGIES FOR THE PURPOSE OF COMMUNICATION — AND THAT’S WHY WE CREATED THE NEW INSIDE OUT…
"I found the Sensory Certificate Course for SLPs to be absolutely revolutionary...”
“I found the Sensory Certificate Course for SLPs to be absolutely revolutionary. I would love for more SLPs and SLPAs to have that kind of moment with their clients.
"Where they find a way, or ways, to bring their clients to their optimal learning zones and they can really start to address communication because the clients are ready to learn!
— Alison Moulton, MS, CCC-SLP (private practice owner)
THE SELF-PACED INSIDE OUT COURSE WAS CREATED TO HELP YOU GET KIDS REGULATED SO YOU CAN QUICKLY UNLOCK COMMUNICATION AND ALWAYS HAVE AN ANSWER TO THE QUESTION “WHY”
(...AND so you can do it without getting overwhelmed by your busy schedule…)
"[Inside Out] makes it easy…to explain…exactly what I am doing and WHY....”
"This course has been so valuable to me. I really think that the assessments, checklists, and action plans were fantastic.
"I am able to support and address each aspect of a child’s needs now in a manageable and concrete manner that makes it easy (finally!) to explain to parents and other professionals exactly what I am doing and WHY.
"Not only can I explain why I'm doing it, but I know where and how to start, and where to go with these resources.
"I also love how I can always access them whenever I need them. There is so much to learn in this course! I've gone back over the modules countless times to refresh and improve my skills!”
— Sam Canipe, M.S. CCC-SLP (clinic setting)

“This information will impact the way I design therapy activities tremendously.”
“I had an ah-hah moment when looking at all the sensation patterns within each process.
At times when providing therapy, I forget to stop and think about what am I doing or not doing to engage my patients. And it's all these processes that I forget to take in consideration to improve the way I am providing therapy to patients. This information will impact the way I design therapy activities tremendously.”
